Photo manipulation

I had scan in an old photo which had been scratched and damaged so that I could edit it with photoshop. Here is the original picture

The colours are washed out/dull and the picture doesn't look very appealing. Using photoshop I corrected this to the best of my ability.

1. First I scanned my original picture in and cropped it down into a smaller size which was easier to edit.

2. I then adjust the hue, brightness/contrast to bring out the pictures depth.

3. I then used colour adjustment sliders to enhance the colours on the parrot. This did not work straight away so instead of changing the colour of the parrot I painted over it with brighter colours and then made it into a overlay texture.

4. I then blurred out the overlay texture to make it less obvious.

5. I then cropped the rest of the image to get a better perspective.

6. Finally I used the dust & scratches filter to remove damage from the photo

This is the finished picture. I do think it looks better however I think it suffers from being a bit to bright but unfortunately this was the only way I could get rid of some the damage on the picture. I think the main problem with the image is the fact that the parrots face isn't that clear.
