Magazine Design

The front cover of a magazine can be more important than what is inside, as its the cover of a magazine that sells itself to the viewer. For example the cover has be relevant otherwise people will not know what they are picking up.

This cover shows an understanding of the core basics for a cover. The main header is bold and at the top of the page. the main picture is central and gives space for text. And the main story uses bolder and more colourful text than the other stories. I think I will base my magazine covers on a design like this as it focuses on a story using bold contrasts and making the main image well spaced and central.

This magazine takes a similar approach only the main story is the only text which goes over the main image and all the other stories are used as a border round the page. I think this would also be suitable for my magazine design however I would prefer for my main image to bleed out of its edges rather than being bordered off.

This magazine cover also uses the same key layout tools only instead of blending the main image with the title they have bordered it off to make it more obvious were as the over magazine covers use contrasting colours against the main image. I don't think this design template would be as good as the other two as it is not as central with the placing of text and image. I wan't my magazine cover to be very clear what it is about straight away, so the main image and text should be central and dominant in the size they take up on the page.
