Digital Art

Only recently have artists been able to use technology to enhance the works they produce. With the invention of digital cameras and appliances art become more accessible to people. With such popular programs as Photoshop technology has now enabled us to practically re-invent the way we see photography, but is this a good thing?

For example, the photograph to the above has been improved with photoshop. A bluish tint has been added to the entire picture along with a blurring effect in the foreground. The artist has also used a sharpness effect on the nib of the tablet pen to increase the emphasis of the digital technology in the picture. This basic effect can make a picture look a lot more effective. I could use this method to exaggerate the meaning behind a picture, for example a picture of a power plant could have a red tint to demonstrate global warming and its negative effects.

This work shows a good example of digital collage/manipulation. From either photography or scan in work this can be very
effectively put together. The piece seems to be a homage to the family portrait style popular in the Victorian era. Thanks to modern technology the artist has been able to remove the head and legs of the two people in the photograph and replace them with computers, cables and wires; along with giving the overall picture and sepia tint. I could also take this approach to a picture to show how people use to much electricity.
