Billy Boyce - Building the Website

Building the Billy Boyce website took a lot of work. I had to write all the code and build the site from the ground up. I underestimated just how much time it would take to code all the components for the site. I had previously worked a little bit on actionscript 2 but actionscript 3 was pretty much a different coding language. To clarify actionscript 3 is the coding language for Adobe's creation software Flash.

Making sure the site could scale according to browser size was a very important task. I had to make sure the site would scale so that people with lower resolution monitors would still be able view the site without having components bunch up and look messy. Not only did this restrict were I could place components but it also played a large role into the final aesthetics of the site.
Getting the site aesthetics correct was vital. For this I needed to keep in contact with my client regularly. I set up a temporary domain so I could share files with my client as well as test out the sites functionality. The site went through many visual changes during development. This at times was frustrating as entire components had to be re-written. However it was a necessary process to get a site that looked consistent.
The site also needed to link out to other websites such as social feeds and the clients shop. It took quite a while to link all the items in the clothes gallery but this kind functionality made the site a much more interesting and useful experience for the user.

I created every single part of the website apart from a couple of banners, the brand logo and all the photographs.
My favourite part of the site to create were the animated buttons at the bottom of the page. The buttons needed to be visible at all times but not too distracting. To do this I made sure I made sure the colour palette stayed in keeping with the pale, crisp look of rest of the site. Below is a screen grab of me working on one of the buttons for the site in Flash.
I have a lot of previous experience of animating in flash. So the process of creating these buttons thankfully went pretty smoothly. I feel like they complete the sleek look of the final site. Needless to say I'm really happy with the final site. Fortunately so is my client; I'm currently working on integrating new components. Hopefully I should be able to make the site load a bit quicker. All the experience I've had building this website should aid me greatly when it comes to building my own website over the Summer which I currently have registered to the domain www.roboface.co.uk.
