3D City Model

Over the past few weeks I have been working on the largest Sketchup model I have ever created; here is my progress so far.

The model is a small part of city which I hope to create over time. I've spent a lot of time making small details so that each building is individual and interesting. It has taken a long time so far but I think it has been worth the effort. I have experimented with different rendering techniques as well to help me decide how I want the final product to look. Here are a couple of ray traced previews that I did early on in development. I think they work as stills but I don't think there is enough style behind them.

I decided to use a much less expensive rendering method and also to make a short test video to help me decide whether to continue. I'm much happier with the new visual style represented in the video below (apart from the motion blur) but I'm still open to experimentation. In the mean time I'm going to continue working on the model until it's a more productive size.
