TICK - Northern Design Competition Entry
TICK is an animated short that I felt inspired to create after a sleepless night at a relative’s house. I was kept awake by the constant ticking of the absurd amount of clocks around me. This made me think how irritating it would be to work in a clock repairs store and that it might make some people literally keel over in annoyance. I set myself the brief of making the cartoon using a mixed approach of artistic techniques. I achieved this by painting some of my backgrounds using acrylic paints and by doing the animation it’s self in Macromedia Flash. Sound design was also a very big part of this animation as well. I did all of the Foley work myself using a condenser mic. I found it quite fun finding clocks to use in the animation and also quite challenging to apply the sound over the final piece. I found the development process of making storyboards and test animations essential. I also feel that I have learnt a lot about animation through this piece not only through software but the amount care it takes to make even the shortest of animations and I’m really proud of what I have created.
