Using Different Media Applications to Edit

I decided that I would try to play around with one of my hand drawn illustrations using a range different editing programs. Below is the original image that I drew and then scanned in.

Here is my most basic edit using Photoshop with a background that I had already made using two pictures that I merged together using a layer blend. I have simply cut out my character and placed him on top of the background

I really like this image because of the simple colours. It has a very bold contrast on it and the framing works quite nicely. If i were to change anything in the image I would remove any of the pencil lines that are faintly visible on the characters chest.

With This image I used the same document but once again using Photoshop I drew A carrot in the characters hand using the brush tools. I then filled the character in with the paint bucket tool. I was surprised how well this worked and I really liked the effect of flat colour as It is very sharp, however I think the carrot could have been drawn better.

This is the final image I created using a mixture of Adobe illustrator, Macromedia Flash and Photoshop. To create this image I first copied the original character into illustrator and then did a live trace of the document. Once I had made the live trace of the character I exported it into Flash as a vector shape. I used Flash to colour the character and apply shading. I then saved the character as a PNG and exported it into Photoshop. Once in Photoshop I Made the text and background. I really like this design and I made it using only flat colours in the knowledge that the design may be printed onto a shirt. If I were to make the image again I would probably have done the background and text in Illustrator as the it looks slightly jagged and the quality probably could have been better.

Here is another image I created using a similar process. The original image was drawn with a ball point pen and then was scanned into to Photoshop were I coloured it in with the paint brush tools. It would have probably been more efficient to use the fill tools rather than the brush tool but I'm happy with the overall image. If I were to change anything with the picture I would make the outlines on the character a little bit sharper, perhaps using a live trace on Illustrator.
